At the edge of law and life, Agamben highlights a hidden paradigm of power and exclusion. A paradigm found in ancient Rome that still makes its mark on modern society. Is the rule law, or is exceptions to the law, the rule? Is modern democracy rooted in it's definition? Agamben leaves us with interesting answers that may inform the future.

Max Weber serves as sociology's founding members with the "Protestant Ethic" being one of it's foundational texts. Here I hope to sum up his thesis within the "Protestant Ethic" but also expand upon it's consequence within contemporary philosophy and society. Massive ...

I'd be hesitant to put any emphasis on Fisher's suicide as some sort of proof of the urgency of his work. Not out of piety, but there is simply no need. The same happens with Ian Curtis until this day: "It shows that he really meant it!" (Not exactly - Slavoj Zizek is skeptical of suicide bombers, who he sees as terribly insecure) Fisher's ideas hit home by themselves. One of the most important thinkers of recent times.

While I more than understand that one's mental health woes go beyond their ideological outlook, I do think this holds extra weight with Fisher. Fisher explicitly writes about the sociological effect of mental health being rooted in hyper-individual ideology. He was pretty disgruntled about how the socio-political systems being completely stripped out of the conversation around mental health. I take his word on this and to not put that into a large factor around his suicide seems pretty incorrect. Aside from that I absolutely don't think this takes away from his work on it's own at all. I'm a pretty happy person who isn't suicidal at all. I find his work just as relevant.

And people, with no point of reference for anything but the colonial spirit, do seem to enthusiastically adopt this crab in bucket, zero class consciousness, wealth worship, cuck role

doesnt "the hidden agency we all contain" per foucault manifests itself in a "i would prefer not to" stance á la zizek? Does the agency that foucault shows us we have lead into a imperative that is synonymous with that of zizek? I think one could argue that convincingly.

The social and spiritual revolution of the 60s was stifled by the onslaught of neoliberalism (rebranded fascism) privatization, replacing fiscal policy investment in the public sector with private bank-issued credit cards and predatory loans. Then propagandizing normal gov't funding with scary socialism and communism. The people didn't change, aside from the financial stress of downsizing and capital flight. The electoral process was divorced from economic policy. People no longer had a voice in matters. All the progress made to improve quality of life.. civil, labor, food safety, consumer safety, environmental protections, have been rescinded these past 50 years. Billionaires have assumed global governance now. People like Peter Thiel, Technocracy advocate behind JD Vance, when asked what the #1 thing he would change to improve the world, said "Raise the age for Social Security". Companies like Boeing cannot self-regulate and inspect properly. The private sector is far worse than governments ever were, yet dismantling the nation-state, erasing borders, is underway.

That’s not what’s happening with “climate change” or with “covid.” In both cases the govt is attempting to force our attention in those directions. They’re artificially creating the catastrophe by convincing you that these are the pertinent issues of the time. They aren’t trying to distract you from those issues like they tried to distract people from the comet in the movie. Only similarity is how their attempt to exploit the issue for monetary gain led to worse issues.

McCarthy brings beauty and order to horrible and senseless things. Struggle, despair, and war. Hell, even incest and necrophelia arent off limits. I really felt... something profound in the last page and a half of Lester Ballards life in Child of God. That guys story and struggle and atrocities, all end in a few quick lines. James Franco made it a movie... and he changed the ending. Its because you cant describe the feelings you get at the end of that book. The last page and a half.
